Tooth Extractions

Occasionally, our neighborhood pediatric dentists may determine that a tooth extraction could be beneficial for the development and growth of your child’s mouth. If this is the case, we will discuss your child’s needs with you as well as how we can help your child feel comfortable while their tooth is removed and during their recovery afterwards.

When is Tooth Extraction Needed?

Tooth extractions for children are sometimes necessary to ensure their oral health and the proper development of their adult teeth. While baby teeth typically fall out naturally, there are instances where our pediatric dentists may need to intervene and remove a tooth. This is often done to prevent complications such as overcrowding misalignment, or infection, all of which can affect your child’s comfort and dental wellbeing.

There are several reasons why a child may require a tooth extraction. One common reason is if a baby tooth has not fallen out on its own and is obstructing the eruption of the adult tooth. If left untreated, this can cause the permanent teeth to grow in crooked or overlap with others. Additionally, if a baby tooth has experienced significant decay or damage beyond what a filling or crown can repair, an extraction may be the best course of action. Tooth extractions may also be part of an orthodontic treatment plan to create more space in a crowded mouth.
